UNESCO20 February 2013: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced the launch of an online Course for Secondary Teachers on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development (CCESD). The training kit, which features a series of six-day programmes, is designed to support secondary teachers in helping young people understand the causes and consequences of climate change.

The training kit, the first online learning course on climate change for secondary teachers, addresses various subjects affected by climate change, including ethics, social studies, economics and political science. It aims to enable teachers to facilitate climate change mitigation, adaptation and disaster risk reduction (DRR) learning. Users can access the learning materials through Flash-based software.

The course is part of UNESCO’s Programme on CCESD, which focuses on making climate change education a more central and visible part of the international response to climate change. The Programme aims to help people understand the present impact of climate change and increase “climate literacy” among young people.
