The Africa Leadership Awards awarded the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's Institute for Water Education (UNESCO-IHE) the Africa Water Leadership Award 2014 in the category ‘Most Innovative New Technology of the Year' for its emergency Sanitation Operation System (eSOS) Smart Toilet at a ceremony in Mauritius.
10 December 2014: The Africa Leadership Awards awarded the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s Institute for Water Education (UNESCO-IHE) the Africa Water Leadership Award 2014 in the category ‘Most Innovative New Technology of the Year’ for its emergency Sanitation Operation System (eSOS) Smart Toilet at a ceremony in Mauritius.
UNESCO’s eSOS concept provides an affordable, holistic and sustainable sanitation solution in the aftermath of a disaster. The eSOS emergency toilets are robust, light-weight and easily deployed in disaster areas. UNESCO-IHE developed the smart toilet as part of its eSOS emergency sanitation concept in cooperation with FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB and Systech.
