26 September 2011: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and its partners have created an exhibition titled “Satellites and World Heritage Sites, Partners to Understand Climate Change,” which aims to highlight the specific challenges facing World Heritage Sites.

The exhibition consists of 25 setellite images that show the threats facing these places, including shrinking glaciers, coral bleaching, disappearing permafrost, desertification and floods.

The exhibition was created for the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16), to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Cancun, Mexico, in 2010, where it was publicly displayed. It is now displayed on the exterior fences of UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, France, until 11 November 2011. [UNESCO Press Release]
