UNESCO and Partners Explore Synergies Between Faith Values and Education for Sustainable Development

The UNESCO San Jose office, Earth Charter International, and the University for Peace have released a book titled “Exploring synergies between faith values and education for sustainable development,” which recognizes the role faith traditions play in creating a sustainable world, and in contributing to the efforts of the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development.

It is the first publication of the new UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Development and the Earth Charter.

UNESCO2 March 2012: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) San Jose office, Earth Charter International, and the University for Peace have released a book titled “Exploring synergies between faith values and education for sustainable development.”

The book examines the points of convergence between education for sustainable development (ESD) and faith values, with emphasis on potential synergies between them. It recognizes the role faith traditions play in creating a sustainable world, and in contributing to the efforts of the UN Decade on Education for Sustainable Development.

The work was commissioned by the ESD section of UNESCO in Paris, France, and received financial support from the Japanese Funds-in-Trust for ESD. It is the first publication of the new UNESCO Chair on Education for Sustainable Development and the Earth Charter. It presents 17 articles from Indigenous Traditions, and Abrahamic and Asian Religious Traditions.
