UNEP Updates CPR on Work on Sustainable Development, Post-2015 Agenda

Achim Steiner drew attention to UNEP's work on advancing the negotiations on the adoption of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) patterns (10YFP), which was adopted at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

He explained that UNEP is currently developing a menu of options for the organizational structure of the 10YFP and to fulfill its key functions and activities.

UNEPSeptember 2012: UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Achim Steiner reported to the 120th Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) on UNEP’s activities related to sustainable development and the post-2015 development agenda, among other activities. The report was delivered in New York, US, on 26 September 2012.

Steiner drew attention to UNEP’s work on advancing the negotiations on the adoption of the 10-Year Framework of Programmes (10YFP) on Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) patterns, which was adopted at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). He explained that UNEP is currently developing a menu of options for the organizational structure of the 10YFP and to fulfill its key functions and activities. He also outlined UNEP’s work with the Non-Governmental Liaison Service (NGLS) and Major Groups on Rio+20 follow-up activities and the post-2015 development agenda, through regular coordination meetings, as well as UNEP’s contribution to the UN Task Team on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.

According to Steiner, UNEP has also: produced the flagship report “Greening the Blue Helmets: Environment, Natural Resources and UN Peacekeeping Operation” and is now developing training modules based on the report, to be made available to all peacekeeping training centers; worked in collaboration with UN University-International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environmental Change (IHDP) to develop the conceptual framework for the Inclusive Wealth Report launched during Rio+20; and released the fifth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-5).
