2009 Tunza International Youth Conference on the Environment
March 2009: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with the UNEP National Committee for the Republic of Korea, will be hosting the 2009 Tunza International Youth Conference on the Environment in Daejeon, Republic of Korea, from 21-26 August 2009. The main theme of the conference is “Climate Change – Our Challenge.”

It is expected to attract over 200 young people worldwide, aged 15 to 24. Discussions will focus on how to reduce carbon footprints, green jobs for youth, the impact of disasters and conflicts on the environment, and sustainable lifestyles. The conference will record commitments made by youth, develop and propose regional action plans, and elect the Tunza Youth Advisory Council. A youth statement on climate change is also expected to emerge and will be presented to the UNFCCC Copenhagen Conference in December 2009. [Conference Website]
