25 October 2010: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has facilitated the development of a Major Groups and Stakeholder Advisory Group on International Environmental Governance (IEG). The Group consists of 15 core members, selected following the submission of 90 responses to the call for applications.

The Advisory Group participated in its first consultation on 25 October 2010, in Geneva, Switzerland, to assess the IEG options currently under discussion, to examine alternative options, and to identify implementation and communication outreach strategies, among other agenda items. UNEP is also in the process of organizing regional consultations for major groups in preparation of the February 2011 meeting of the Governing Council/Global Ministerial Environmental Forum.
