15 September 2009: The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has announced that nominations are now open for the sixth cycle of the Champions of the Earth award.
There are four award categories: policy leadership, science and innovation, entrepreneurial vision, and inspiration and action.

In 2010, each Champion will be receive US$40,000. The award ceremony will be hosted in Seoul, Republic of Korea, alongside the annual Business for the Environment conference, on 22 April 2010. [UNEP Press release]
