UNEP and Partners Launch “Lets Travel Together” Sustainable Transport Campaign
story highlights

UNEP and partners have launched the Let's Travel Together campaign, which aims to encourage travellers to share their cars with friends, use public transport and take other actions to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles.

19 June 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with over 20 train, metro, bus, and carpooling companies across Europe, has launched a campaign aimed at promoting sustainable transport choices among commuters. The Let’s Travel Together campaign was launched on the sidelines of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).

The campaign, which is part of UNEP’s GreenUp initiative, illustrates how sustainable transport can support the transition towards a low carbon, resource efficient green economy. It aims to encourage travellers to share their cars with friends, use public transport and take other actions to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles. The campaign is social-media based, with individuals’ Facebook avatars appearing on a green, futuristic vehicle together with others who have pledged to support sustainable transport. If users convince their friends to join the campaign they will be entered into a competition to win public transport tickets in several European countries.
