UNECE/FAO Release Forest Products Annual Market Review 2007-2008
story highlights

United States forest products market crash impacts UNECE region markets in 2007 and 2008 August 2008: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the
UNECE/FAO Forest Products Annual Market Review, 2007-2008. The Review, based on
the theme ‘Green building’s impact on the forest sector in the UNECE region,’
covers all forest products market sectors as well as interlinked policy
developments in the UNECE region of Europe, North America and the CIS.

In addition to the market and policy analysis, the report
contains statistical information in the electronic annexes of statistical
tables available on the Review’s website. The Review finds that, inter alia,
responding to climate change and energy security concerns, government policies
in Europe and North America are accelerating woodfuel demand to meet targets
for renewable energy. The Review is the main background document for the joint
UNECE Timber Committee and FAO European Forestry Commission’s Market
Discussions, to be held at the European Forest Week, to be held on 21-22 October
2008, in Rome, Italy. [The Review]
