UNECE/FAO Forest Billboard Highlights Project Activities

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Forestry and Timber Section have published the March 2014 edition of the Forest Information Billboard.

The Billboard highlights an effort to assess the accuracy of the European Forest Sector Outlook Study's (EFSOS II) projections on wood used for energy generation up through 2030.

FAO UNECEMarch 2014: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Forestry and Timber Section have published the March 2014 edition of the Forest Information Billboard. The Billboard highlights an effort to assess the accuracy of the European Forest Sector Outlook Study’s (EFSOS II) projections on wood used for energy generation up through 2030.

The Billboard also announces the launch of a study to examine the impacts of forest ownership on forest management practices and challenges and opportunities faced by different categories of forest owners. The study, carried out in collaboration with European Cooperation and Science and Technology (COST) Forest Land Ownership Changes in Europe: Significance for Management And Policy (FACESMAP), will also identify innovative forest management approaches and ownership types.

The Billboard also features a report on the expected impacts of a possible reduction in wood supply in Austria on the value-added wood chain. Finally, the bulletin introduces a toolkit to support the development of a national forest certification system. [Publication: Forest Information Billboard – Issue 1, March 2014]
