The Workshop is the first step towards developing a methodology to quantify the benefits of transboundary water cooperation.

The UNECE Expert Scoping Workshop on Quantifying the Benefits of Transboundary Water Cooperation was held from 6-7 June 2013, in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The meeting addressed possible methodologies for quantification of economic, environmental, social and political benefits of transboundary water cooperation.

The process aims to: develop a definition of cooperation in the context of transboundary water management; identify a typology of benefits; discuss existing approaches and methodologies for the quantification of the typology of benefits; and discuss characteristics the Guidance Note should have in order to be most useful to Parties to the Water Convention.
