UNECE, Turkey Collaborate on Energy Efficiency

Turkish Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Taner Yildiz, and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) organized an international workshop on the UN Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources (UNFC) in Ankara, Turkey, on 29 September 2011.

On the sidelines of the workshop, other areas of energy cooperation were discussed, including regional end-use energy efficiency.

UNECE7 October 2011: The Minister for Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, Taner Yildiz, and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) organized an international workshop on the UN Framework Classification for Fossil Energy and Mineral Reserves and Resources (UNFC) in Ankara, Turkey, on 29 September 2011.

According to the UNECE Weekly newsletter, the event was attended by more than 90 participants from the mineral and petroleum sectors in Turkey, representing industry, the finance community and academia. Participants agreed a national committee should be established in Turkey to assess future short- and long-term activities on this issue.

On the sidelines of the workshop, the Director of the UNECE Sustainable Energy Division, Scott Foster, met with Yildiz and the Director General of Energy Issues in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mithat Rende, to discuss other areas of interest for UNECE and Turkey, including on end-use energy efficiency throughout the region, the development of gas infrastructure, improving the thermal efficiency of coal-fired plants, the UNECE’s energy security dialogue, and the establishment of industry centers to enhance industry-government dialogue.
