UNECE Executive Secretary Highlights Links between European Environment and Health Process and Rio+20

UNECE Executive Secretary Ján Kubiš took part in the first meeting of the European Environment and Health Ministerial Board, during which he highlighted links with the Rio+20 process.

9 May 2011: UNECE Executive Secretary Ján Kubiš took part in the first meeting of the European Environment and Health Ministerial Board, which convened in Paris, France, from 4-5 May 2011.

According to the Weekly newsletter of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) for the period 9-13 May 2011, in his address, Kubiš stressed the need to ensure greater visibility of the Environment and Health Process in the forthcoming “Environment for Europe” Ministerial Conference, to be held in Astana from 21-23 September 2011, and the Regional Preparatory Meeting for Rio+20, scheduled to take place in December 2011, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Committee was created at the Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health held in March 2010, to coordinate international policies in the field of environment and health. The Committee includes the Ministers of Environment from Romania, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Belarus, the Ministers of Health from France, Malta, Serbia and Slovenia, as well as the Regional Director for Europe of the World Health Organization, the UNECE Executive Secretary, the Director of UNEP’s Regional Office for Europe, and the President and co-president of the Action Force for Environment and Health with the European Commission.
