story highlights

UNECE concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), with the parties agreeing to exchange information and expertise, particularly on forestry.

1 November 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on 26 October 2010, on the sidelines of the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the CBD. The MoU was reported in UNECE’s weekly newsletter for the period 1-6 November 2010.

The MoU is expected to further strengthen the collaboration between UNECE and the CBD Secretariat, through enhanced exchange of information and use of respective expertise in support of each other’s mandates in areas of mutual interest. In this respect, the MoU recognizes the importance and relevance of the work of the UNECE environmental performance reviews and in timber and forestry. The MoU also provides that UNECE and the CBD Secretariat will convene periodic consultations to review their cooperation and to discuss new opportunities, not less than once every two years.
