15 April 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has commissioned a report titled “China and a Sustainable Future, Towards a Low Carbon Economy and Society,” coordinated by the Renmin University of China, which argues that the country has “no other choice” but to shift to a low carbon development path as it continues to urbanize.
The report warns that if China does not address climate change and environmental degradation, it risks reversing three decades of social and economic achievements. It further argues that if China embarks on a low carbon development path, it will preserve and increase its human development achievements in the future. [UNDP Press Release] [The Report]
