UNDP Launches Portuguese Version of “Triple Wins for Sustainable Development”
story highlights

The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has launched the Portuguese version of "Triple Wins for Sustainable Development," showcasing policies and programmes that advance sustainable development's three pillars simultaneously.

The case study for Brazil highlights its success in understanding poverty as a multi-dimensional problem.

UNDP1 June 2012: UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Helen Clark launched the Portuguese version of “Triple Wins for Sustainable Development,” a UNDP publication highlighting eight examples of policies and programmes that advance simultaneously the social, environmental and economic pillars of sustainable development.

The launch took place during the award ceremony for Brazil’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), on 30 May 2012, in Brasilia, Brazil. The case study for Brazil, titled “making sustainable development happen,” highlights Brazil’s success in understanding poverty as a multi-dimensional problem that goes beyond a lack of income and demands comprehensive approaches to break cycles of exclusion, lack of opportunity, poor health and low incomes. It also notes that Brazil has benefitted from a combination of rapid economic growth; significant declines in income poverty and inequality; the attainment of near universal access to basic energy, water, and sanitation services; very high shares of renewables in electricity generation; and important social policy innovations.
