October 2013: The UN Development Programme’s (UNDP) Democratic Governance Group has launched the Global Portal on Anti-Corruption for Development, a web platform on anti-corruption for sustainable development. The platform provides knowledge on efforts to address corruption alongside development challenges such as climate change, gender equality and empowerment, human rights, illicit financial flows and natural resource management (NRM).

The portal also supports the process to formulate the post-2015 development agenda and achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The platform is organized around eight themes: sectoral approach to fighting corruption; human rights, transparency and accountability; prevention of illicit financial flows; anti-corruption and women’s empowerment; corruption risk mitigation in climate change; anti-corruption in post-conflict and transition countries; the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Implementation and Review Mechanism; and corruption measurement and anti-corruption monitoring. Each section includes feature publications, case studies and papers, multimedia sources and training materials.

On transparency and accountability in NRM, the platform states that tax avoidance or patronage in the natural resources sector can undermine democracy and citizens’ rights, and explains increased transparency and accountability throughout NRM value chains can support equitable, sustainable resource use and reduce corruption risks. The section on anti-corruption in REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, and the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks) highlights resources to guide countries in identifying and mitigating corruption risks in REDD+ design, implementation and payments.

The platform also provides access to corruption risk mitigation tools and methodologies, advocacy resources and evaluations. An e-library organizes anti-corruption documents by region. An interactive map illustrates and provides details on anti-corruption efforts around the world. The platform also aims to facilitate exchange of ideas through blogs, e-discussions and webinars.

UNDP, the UN Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR), the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Institute for Education Planning (IIEP) and the Virtual School serve as partners in the platform.
