11 August 2008: The UN Development Programme’s (UNDP) Human
Development Report Office introduced the youth version of the 2007-2008 Human
Development Report on 11 August 2008. The youth version, entitled “Two degrees
of separation between hope and despair,” was prepared by young people between
the ages of 16 and 25, and offers an explanation of the climate change problem,
followed by mitigation and adaptation policies, and a call to action by young
people.

The title refers to the Human Development Report’s warning
that temperatures must not rise more than two degrees Centigrade above
pre-industrial levels. Cecilia Ugaz, Deputy Director of the UNDP Human
Development Report Office, said the youth version emphasizes individual
solutions to global problems, and will be officially launched on 12 August,
International Youth Day, at the World Youth Congress in Quebec City. [UN
