9 June 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) held a two-day consultation with 25 representatives of civil society organizations and foundations in New York, US. UNDP is preparing a 20-year review of the impact of its flagship publication, the Human Development Report, which advocates for a healthy environment where people can lead productive and creative lives.

The recommendations received from the various groups and organizations will be part of the Platform HD2010.
This initiative will also feed into the ten-year review of the Millennium Declaration and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in 2010. The key message emerging from this first consultation emphasized the opportunity generated by climate change and the economic crisis to transform current global governance and to prioritize human development and citizen engagement.
During the consultation, Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator, stressed that the new climate change agreement to be sealed in Copenhagen in December needs to be a development deal, underscoring that efforts to address climate change are at the heart of poverty reduction and the achievement of the MDGs.
