October 2014: The UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are convening an e-discussion on next steps for a global partnership for development. The outcomes are expected to inform a forthcoming ESCAP/ADB/UNDP Asia-Pacific MDG Report on Means of Implementation (MOI) and the Global Partnership for Development.
The World We Want 2015, which will host the e-discussion, recalls the eighth Millennium Development Goal (MDG 8) – Develop a Global Partnership for Development – and assessments that is was “weakly formulated, hard to track and only partially monitored.” For a new global partnership for development, an Asia-Pacific expert panel discussion on ‘Goal 8: What’s Next’ identified three areas as critical: financing the post-2015 development agenda; strengthening the evidence base for monitoring the post-2015 agenda and informing development policy; and technology transfer and trade facilitation.
The discussion will take place on the World We Want 2015 Platform in three phases. Phase 1 (20-31 October) will focus on financing the post-2015 development agenda. The e-discussion will then address evidence and accountability (30 October-12 November) and technology transfer and trade facilitation (11-24 November). [World We Want 2015 Press Release]
