story highlights

Capacity Building for Sustainable Water Resources Management (Cap-Net), a UN Development Programme initiative, has developed course materials to train water managers on earth observation (EO) tools, in partnership with he University of Twente Faculty of Geo-Information and Earth Observation (ITC), Caribbean Waternet and MyCBNet, Malaysia.

17 December 2012: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) initiative Capacity Building for Sustainable Water Resources Management (Cap-Net) has announced its partnership with the University of Twente Faculty of Geo-Information and Earth Observation (ITC), Caribbean Waternet and MyCBNet, Malaysia, to create training courses on how to use Earth observation tools in managing water resources.

Cap-Net emphasizes the utility of Earth observation tools including geographic information systems (GIS), rainfall monitoring, and drought and flood mapping, in evaluating and monitoring water resources for better and more sustainable management. The course materials are designed to train water managers in the most up-to-date advances in Earth observation, and how to use available techniques, data and information. A training of trainers took place in Enschede, the Netherlands, in December 2012, which aimed to train participants from various regions to go back and “cascade knowledge” into their regions.
