© Governors' Global Climate Summit 229 September 2009: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) are co-hosting the Governors’ Global Climate Summit, which is being held in Los Angeles, California, from 30 September-2 October.

The Governors’ Global Climate Summit 2 aims to broaden cooperative efforts by subnational governments and their role in implementing strategies that can promote a green economy. It includes 21 different panels featuring discussions on energy efficiency, low carbon fuels, green buildings, clean technology, job creation, water management, deforestation, sustainable development, training opportunities and adaptation strategies. Participants from 70 countries and over 30 governors from around the world are expected to attend the event. The Summit is expected to result in a declaration on: commitments to pursue clean transportation and mobility; support for national climate change legislation throughout the world; acknowledgement of the need for greater efforts to address adaptation needs; and support for the recognition of the role of subnational governments in all aspects of achieving a global climate solution in Copenhagen.
