UNDP Administrator Discusses Climate Change Vulnerability with Prime Minister of Bangladesh

UN Development Administrator Helen Clark and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina focused their discussions on the country's vulnerability to climate change such as rising sea levels, increased salinity and the national adaptation plan.

16 November 2010: Helen Clark, UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator, in her official visit to Bangladesh, and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina discussed the country’s vulnerability to climate change. Topics included rising sea levels, increased salinity and the national adaptation plan. Their discussions emphasized how the effects of climate change were eroding the development gains made in recent years and on the need to climate-proof development, including in regard to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Clark also paid a visit to a project that uses mangrove forests to reduce CO2 emissions and combat erosion. [UN News release]
