UNCTADJune 2012: The third issue of “Road to Rio+20: For a Development-led Economy,” published by the UN Conference on Trade and Environment (UNCTAD), contains contributions addressing commitments and outcomes of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), as well as the potential of the process leading up to the UNCSD to generate innovative ideas and policies and consolidate governments’ sustainable development strategies.

The first section, on Rio+20 as a “commitment to the future,” contains contributions on: the transition to a green economy; the potential of Rio+20 to further sustainable development and poverty eradication through trade and technology transfer; and the proposals of the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on Global Sustainability (GSP).

Contributions in the section on “making business sense of green” discuss, among other issues: private sector perspectives on sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the green economy; resource efficiency for sustained livelihoods; and experiences from the UNCTAD BioTrade initiative.

Regarding “green ambitions and indicators,” two articles discuss the Global Green Economy Index (GGEI) and energy efficiency in Europe. The final section, titled “a case for optimism” contains case studies from Africa, Ecuador, Mexico and China. [Publication: The Road to Rio+20: For a Development-led Green Economy, Issue 3]
