UNCTAD’s First Innovation and Technology Day Highlights Innovation for Sustainable Development

The First Innovation and Technology Day, held at the margins of UNCTAD XIII in Doha, Qatar, addressed developing countries' abilities to harness science, technology and innovation by way of technological upgrading and modernization of their production activities.

UNCTAD24 April 2012: At the first Innovation and Technology Day, hosted by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Qatar Foundation, innovators from around the world met with policy makers for discussions on unlocking human potential to foster sustainable development. Presentations focused on developing countries’ abilities to harness science, technology and innovation through technological upgrading and modernization of production activities.

Participants also heard presentations on the role of information and communication technologies (ICT) in catalyzing newer, inclusive, developmental opportunities, such as access to affordable and relevant ICT infrastructure.
