UNCTAD Organizes Panel on Women’s Access to Education, Science and Technology for Development
story highlights

The Panel discussed the role that enhanced access to education, science and technology for women and girls plays for economic growth of developing countries and what policy mechanisms are required to make it happen.

8 March 2011: In celebration of the International Women’s Day Centenary 1911-2011, the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) organized a panel discussion on enhancing women’s access to education, science and technology for economic growth and development.

Held as part of a week long series of events organized by Geneva-based UN organizations, the panel focused on two issues: the role that enhanced access to education, science and technology for women and girls plays for economic growth of developing countries; and the policy mechanisms required to make it happen. Speakers and participants were invited to share their thoughts and experiences in the field. The Panel’s conclusions will feed into the UNCTAD-XIII Ministerial Conference, which will take place in Doha, Qatar, in April 2012, and is expected to address science, technology and gender-related issues, among other items.
