NFPs play an important role in supporting and facilitating implementation of the UNCCD at the national level, and work with other countries’ NFPs at the sub-regional and regional levels to promote implementation. In addition, they often represent their country in UNCCD meetings and may be elected to serve on the Bureau of the UNCCD’s subsidiary bodies or the COP, or serve in another capacity at the international level.

Given the breadth of expertise that the position requires and the regular turn-over in NFPs to the UNCCD, the Secretariat has developed an e-learning course to help build NFP capacity. The course is free and open to anyone who is interested in the UNCCD process. The course will be available beginning 20 January 2014.
