UNCCD Invites Applications for 2013 Land for Life Award

The award will be given to individuals or organizations recognized for their contribution to innovations in sustainable land and soil management.

11 January 2013: The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has opened up the application process for the 2013 Land for Life Award, which recognizes innovations in sustainable land management and activities that enhance soil and promote collaboration between policy makers, scientists and communities.

Applications, due by 8 April 2013, are encouraged from individuals, institutions, government, the private sector, academics, policy makers and journalists. Winners will be announced on the World Day to Combat Desertification in June 2013.

In 2012, three awards were given: Sustainable Organic Integrated Livelihoods in Haiti ($40,000), the Turkish Foundation for Combating Soil Erosion (TEMA) ($30,000) and Conservation Efforts for Community Development (CECOD) in Uganda ($30,000). [UNCCD Land for Life Award]
