February 2013: The Global Mechanism of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has released a publication titled “Funding Opportunities in the Field of SLM for the Annex V Countries of the UNCCD.”

The Convention, as adopted in 1994, contains regional implementation annexes for Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Northern Mediterranean. A regional implementation annex for Central and Eastern Europe was subsequently negotiated and adopted as Annex V of the Convention.

The publication on funding opportunities for sustainable land management (SLM) in Central and Eastern Europe was prepared to provide local and regional government officials, research institutions and civil society organizations an overview of available sources and recommendations for effective resource mobilization and mainstreaming of SLM in this region. It provides an introduction to “Effective resource mobilization for UNCCD implementation,” including a review of integrated financing strategies and proposal formulation strategies. The publication also contains sections on funding opportunities with the European Union and from bilateral donors, development banks and philanthropic foundations.

A Russian version of the publication is expected to be released soon. [UNCCD Announcement][Publication: Funding Opportunities in the Field of SLM for the Annex V Countries of the UNCCD]
