UNCCD, GIZ and BMZ Publish Summary of Meeting on the Economics of Desertification

The Partnership Meeting on the Assessment of the Economics of Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought (E-DLDD) brought together 53 representatives from 31 intergovernmental agencies, government ministries, donor organisations and the private sector.

16 February 2011: The UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), have published a brochure on the discussions of the Partnership Meeting on the Assessment of the Economics of Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought (E-DLDD).

The Partnership Meeting, which was convened from 14-15 December 2010, in Bonn, Germany, brought together 53 representatives from 31 intergovernmental agencies, government ministries, donor organizations and the private sector. The publication contains a summary of the discussions and recommendations from the meeting, which discussed the need for efforts to raise awareness of the economic aspects of desertification, land degradation and drought, and of the costs and benefits of sustainable land management (SLM), including the need for other organizations and individuals to join in this undertaking.
