The first special session of the Committee on Science and Technology (CST S1) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has concluded in Istanbul, Turkey.

CST S1 met on 5-6 November 2008, and reviewed two and four year work plans for the CST that were prepared as a result of the adoption of the ten-year strategic plan during the September 2007 Conference of the Parties to the UNCCD. CST S1 also considered ways to measure progress in the implementation of the objectives of the ten-year strategic plan. The report of CST S1 will be presented to the seventh session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 7), which is meeting back-to-back with the CST during the 3-14 November 2008 joint meeting.
