UN Women and Rockefeller Foundation Launch Global Women’s Survey on Sustainable Development Issues
story highlights

UN Women and the Rockefeller Foundation have launched a global survey to collect women's views and best practice experiences on sustainable development and gender equality, to inform the proceedings at Rio+20.

13 March 2012: UN Women and the Rockefeller Foundation have launched a global survey on sustainable development and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), aimed at supporting the Rio+20 Women’s Major Group (WMG).

The survey aims to collect inputs that reflect the diverse views of women worldwide on the issue of gender equality and women’s empowerment, and to identify areas of focus and convergence that will contribute to the Rio+20 negotiations and the framework for action. It will also collect information on successful women’s projects and supportive policies to showcase initiatives that can be scaled up.

The WGM expects to use the survey results to update the recommendations that will inform the interventions and statements at the remaining international preparatory meetings and at the Conference. In addition, WGM will use the survey results to: prepare position papers and issue briefs; advocate to government delegates; and propose text additions and changes, among other activities.
