UN-Water's forthcoming report will include lessons learned, recommended areas for action, as well as guidance on the establishment of an international monitoring and reporting framework to promote sustainable development and management of water resources.
August 2011: UN-Water has announced that it is developing a status report on the application of integrated approaches to the development, management and use of water resources, for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
UN-Water notes that in 2005, the 13th session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) called for actions related to water resources management, and agreed to follow-up on the implementation of decisions in 2012.
UN-Water says the report will include: lessons learned and recommendations; recommended areas for action; and guidance on the establishment of an international monitoring and reporting framework to promote sustainable development and management of water resources.
Data used in the report will be gleaned from a global survey assessing progess on the application of integrated approached to the development, management and use of water resources. According to UN-Water, 122 countries responded to the global survey, and initial findings indicate that the report will be able to illustrate how the management, development and use of water resources is progressing worldwide, and capture lessons learned.
