© UN9 September 2009: In a statement to the Green Korea 2009 Conference, UN Under-Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs Sha Zukang encouraged developing countries to continue on a “greener” path to growth by targeting large investments toward energy efficiency, renewable energy and public transport.

He said this is a necessary response to “the looming climate crisis” that will bring more poverty and insecurity, destabilize economies and undermine efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals.
The Green Korea 2009 Conference convened on 9 September 2009, in Seoul, Republic of Korea, and was organized by the United Nations among others, and focused on “Green Growth and Cooperation: Policy Mix and Industry.” Zukang also welcomed the decision of the Government of the Republic of Korea to host a new United Nations office for sustainable development strategies.
