7 May 2009: UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food Olivier De Schutter has submitted a contribution to the 17th session of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 17), which is meeting at UN Headquarters in New York, US, though 15 May 2009.

The submission indicates that “crucial choices must be made today to solve [the food price crisis] and design more sustainable food systems for the 21st century, able to cope with climate change and declining natural resources.” The note explores the implications of the right to food framework for the themes on the CSD’s agenda, which include agriculture, rural development, drought, desertification and Africa.
