Ban_214 May 2008: In his opening address at the High-level Segment of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged governments and other actors to prepare agriculture systems to respond to the negative effects of climate change.

He called for further research on adaptation technologies, including better adapted crop varieties and agricultural techniques, and said there was a need to carefully study both the potentials and the risks of biofuels.
