© UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon21 April 2009: On the occasion of the unveiling of the Climate Change Monument at the International Maritime Law Institute in Valletta, Malta, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon noted Malta’s contributions in fighting climate change.

He highlighted that Malta was the first country to table the issue in the UN General Assembly and that it has helped keep the matter high on the global political agenda. In concluding, he thanked Malta for “its strong and enduring commitment to addressing climate change, one of the most urgent challenges of our times.” [UN press release]
