1 March 2010: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is travelling to Los Angeles, US, from 28 February-2 March 2010, to meet with members of the creative community to mobilize support for the goals and mission of the UN, including its efforts to deal with climate change, global hunger and the financial crisis. Ban’s travels are carried out under the framework of the Creative Community Outreach Initiative (CCOI), a collaboration of the UN with the entertainment industry on a number of projects that aims to raise the profile of critical global issues in partnership with the international film and television industries.
Ban is also scheduled to deliver the Bernard Brodie Distinguished Lecture on the Conditions of Peace on the theme “Mobilizing the Global Citizenry: The United Nations in a Changing World,” in which he will focus on rallying support for the UN’s goals and mission. [UN Press Release] [CCOI Website]
