2 November 2008: In a press conference given in Dhaka,
Bangladesh, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that the financial crisis
should not “impede our efforts to fight climate change.” He described the
possible impacts of global warming on Bangladeshis, and noted the country’s
efforts in disaster prevention and preparedness.

He said Bangladesh illustrates
how a vulnerable developing country can strengthen its resilience and that its
lessons learned could benefit others in this disaster-prone region. [UN
