15 October 2010: The UN-REDD Programme has launched a new section of their website on the multiple benefits of REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, as well as the role of conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of forest carbon stocks).

Included on the webpage is a brochure on ecosystem-based benefits of REDD+, such as conservation of forest biodiversity, water regulation, soil conservation, timber, forest foods and other non-timber forest products. The brochure is being released on the occasion of the 10th session of the Conference of Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), taking place in Nagoya, Japan, from 18-29 October 2010. Also included on the webpage are recent articles on: biodiversity benefits of REDD+; and an outline of future UN-REDD activities on multiple benefits, such as map-based analyses, national consultations, exploring the role of valuation and payments for ecosystem services, and developing a framework for understanding the consequences of land-use decisions for biodiversity and ecosystem services.
