Global advertising leaders and Ban join forces to fight climate change 22 September 2008: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon held the
first-ever meeting with over 20 global advertising companies to drive support
for a comprehensive UN communications initiative to help combat climate change.

The meeting was timed with the start of both the 63rd UN General Assembly and
the fifth annual Advertising Week. At the meeting, Ban and the companies
launched a partnership to support UN-led efforts to reach agreement on cutting
greenhouse gas emissions at the Copenhagen climate meeting in December 2009.
Noting that global warming affects everyone, the Secretary-General stressed the
need for the UN to mobilize partners in the private sector and in civil
society. The next steps will include establishing objectives to be unveiled on
the sidelines of the next UN climate conference in December 2008. [UN
