UN Launches Rio+20 Website in Portuguese

The Secretariat of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) launched the Rio+20 website in Portuguese at a Rio de Janerio, Brazil, event on "Progress and Challenges towards the Rio+20 Conference." Nikhil Seth emphasized the importance of Major Groups' participation in the Conference.

Ambassador Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado and the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, also presented new initiatives.

RIO+20 (Portuguese)23 November 2011: Sha Zukang, UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) Secretary General, launched a Portuguese-language version of the UNCSD Secretariat’s website for Rio+20.

The website is part of “Agenda G15,” created and launched by the Humanitare Institute at an event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 23 November 2011, on “Progress and Challenges towards the Rio+20 Conference.” Nikhil Seth, Director of the UN Division for Sustainable Development (DSD) and Rio+20 Head of Office, also participated in the event and emphasized the importance of Major Groups’ participation in the Conference. The Secretary-General of Environment, Energy, Science and Technology of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Ambassador Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, presented a report on “The Road from Stockholm, Rio, Johannesburg to Rio in 2012,” and the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, launched the “Global Report Initiative” as part of the city’s involvement in the Conference.
