UN Global Compact Releases Corporate Water Disclosure Guidelines
story highlights

The UN Global Compact CEO Water Mandate released Corporate Water Disclosure Guidelines to provide a common reporting methodology in light of a proliferation of water assessment and disclosure metrics.

27 August 2012: The CEO Water Mandate initiative of the UN Global Compact has launched Corporate Water Disclosure Guidelines, which are designed to provide information to stakeholders, facilitate understanding by businesses of their water challenges, and encourage the adoption of innovative responses.

Released at the ninth working conference of the CEO Water Mandate, held during World Water Week, the Guidelines create a common reporting methodology to harmonize practice in light of a proliferation of water assessment and disclosure metrics. The Guidelines were developed with the Pacific Institute, the Carbon Disclosure Project, PricewaterhouseCoopers, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Global Reporting Initiative.

The Guidelines feature three main sections that provide: an overview of water performance, risks, impacts and responses; a description of the reporting process and how content is defined; and an overview of detailed quantitative and qualitative data on corporate water management. The Guidelines are general and are designed to apply to as many companies as possible. It is noted that some will be more relevant to some companies, and may need to be tailored to local or company specific circumstances.
