UN Global Compact Bulletin Highlights Regional Meetings, BASD Recommendations

The European Local Networks meeting convened in Belgrade, Serbia to address the outcomes from the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum, the post-2015 development framework and recent initiatives of the UN Secretary-General.

The recommendations from the Business & Industry Major Group, also highlighted the November Bulletin, outline a strategic vision to address the role of business as the engine for innovation and investment.

November 2012: The latest issue of the UN Global Compact Bulletin highlights the Global Compact Local Networks in Europe regional meeting, as well as the final recommendations released by Business Action for Sustainable Development 2012 (BASD 2012), from the Business & Industry Major Group to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). The European Local Networks meeting convened in Belgrade, Serbia to address the outcomes from the Rio+20 Corporate Sustainability Forum, the post-2015 development framework and recent initiatives of the UN Secretary-General. The BASD recommendations outline a strategic vision to address the role of business as the engine for innovation and investment.

The Bulletin also features: a publication titled “Business and Climate Change Adaptation: Toward Resilient Companies and Communities,” which presents ten case examples on climate change adaptation that underscore private sector strengths in identifying new business opportunities; and the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), offering guidance to businesses on empowering women in the workplace, marketplace and community.
