Speaking at the Global Green Growth Summit 2011, Noeleen Heyzer, ESCAP Executive Secretary, stated that green growth, "as one of the strategies to achieve sustainable development by improving the efficiency of the way we use our energy, resources, and in particular carbon, is no longer only an ecological conditionality but also an imperative to improve resilience of our economy against energy, food and resource price volatility."
20 June 2011: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) participated in the Global Green Growth Summit 2011, which convened from 20-21 June 2011 in Seoul, the Republic of Korea. At the Summit, ESCAP underlined that through green growth, Asia-Pacific countries can build their resilience to food and fuel price shocks, as well as to disasters.
