UN-Energy27 March 2012: UN-Energy has published a newsletter highlighting, inter alia, a conference on sustainable biomass for electricity production, a description of UNIDO’s Industrial Energy Efficiency Policy Database, and an overview of the “Poor People’s Energy Outlook 2012.”

Beginning with an overview of the Sustainable Biomass for Electricity Conference (SB4E), which will take place from 2-4 May 2012 in Austria, the newsletter highlights the role of biomass technologies in decarbonizing the energy system. The International Fund for Agriculture and Development (IFAD) is also featured, with the newsletter showcasing the organization’s work financing renewable energy to benefit the rural poor, through, among others, linking agriculture to energy through the production of biofuels.

Also contained in the newsletter is a section on the UN Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) Industrial Development Report (IDR). This year the IDR underscores the need for sustainable energy production and energy efficiency. The newsletter also has sections dedicated to the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Initiative, UNIDO’s Industrial Energy Efficiency Policy Database, and upcoming events.
