June 2009: The latest policy brief in the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs’ (UN DESA) policy brief series, titled “Reaching a Climate Deal in Copenhagen,” examines development and burden-sharing aspects related to mitigation and adaptation that need to be considered to ensure a successful and sustainable outcome of the negotiations.

The brief suggests that development has to be central to the climate change agreement, and should involve scaling up funding and technology available to developing countries for mitigation and adaptation, and support for an investment “push” and catch-up growth in developing countries.
