19 September 2012: The mid-term workshop for the national UN CC:Learn Project in Uganda was held on the theme “Designing Results-based Action to Strengthen Human Resource Capacities to Advance Green, Low Emission and Climate Resilient Development.”

The workshop was held from 19-20 September 2012, in Kampala, Uganda, within the framework of the UN CC:Learn Project “Strengthening Human Resources and Skills to Address Climate Change.” It included working group sessions that focused on identifying possible priority actions for strengthening the country’s institutional capacity to deliver learning on climate change in the education, agriculture, energy, water, forestry, environment, tourism, works and transport sectors. Possible priority actions identified by participants include: developing a skills development strategy for clean technologies; developing a policy on integrating climate change learning into technical and vocational education and training; scaling up current efforts to integrate climate change into primary and secondary education; training artisans on producing energy-efficient stoves; and launching climate change awareness-raising campaigns using mobile phones.

The workshop also formed part of the process of developing Uganda’s national strategy to strengthen human resources and skills to advance green, low emission and climate resilient development. The strategy is intended to be presented at the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 18) in Doha, Qatar, in November-December 2012.
