UN Announces Tracking Tool for MDG Commitments
story highlights

The Integrated Implementation Framework (IIF) was announced by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the Group of 20 (G20) leaders' session on development in November 2010, and has been highlighted recently by the President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA).

It was proposed as a mechanism for tracking commitments made in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), in follow-up to the 2010 High-level Plenary Meeting on the MDGs.

23 May 2012: Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser, UN General Assembly (UNGA) President, has highlighted an initiative proposed by the UN Secretary-General to improve the tracking of commitments made in support of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The web-based tool, called the Integrated Implementation Framework (IIF), was developed in follow-up to the 2010 High-level Plenary Meeting on the MDGs.

The IIF was announced by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon at the Group of 20 (G20) leaders’ session on development in November 2010. It will be launched during a briefing session of the Secretary-General at a UNGA informal meeting on 6 June 2012.

The IIF is expected to create and continually update an interactive database for use by all stakeholders, providing an overview of all international commitments in support of the MDGs. It will supply information on these commitments, track delivery, signal gaps and inconsistencies, and identify unmet needs in support of national development strategies. The IIF is intended to increase the transparency of commitments and the ability of relevant stakeholders to hold actors accountable with regard to their pledges of support.

Nigeria, the Republic of Korea and Canada provided funding for the initiative. [Letter from UNGA President]
